DIMAPUR — Along with the rest of the country, the second quarterly National Lok Adalat (People’s Courts) for the year 2024 will be observed in all the district headquarters under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) on May 11.

A total of 11 Lok Adalat benches by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSAs) will be set-up in the various districts, an update stated.

Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms, and a forum where disputes and cases pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled or compromised amicably. Lok Adalats have been given statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

Under the said Act, the award (decision) made by the Lok Adalats is deemed to be a decree of a civil court and is final and binding on all parties and no appeal against such an award lies before any court of law.

“There is no court fee payable when a matter is filed in a Lok Adalat. If a matter pending in the court of law is referred to the Lok Adalat and is settled subsequently, the court fee originally paid in the court on the complaints/petition is also refunded back to the parties,” it stated.

During the first quarterly National Lok Adalat held on March 9, a total of 178 cases and disputes were disposed with a total settlement amount of  INR 34,15,81,243.

The disposal data of each DLSA will be further uploaded on the web portal of the state authority at nslsa.nagalandgov.in.
