Mokokchung, Aug. 27 (EMN): Volunteers and well-wishers of Artang ward in Mokokchung town have started road repairing works from the residence of Artang Baptist Church’s pastor to Sewak gate junction for the past two days by pressing into service of machineries and manual labourers.

The residents are determined to to construct a concrete road measuring approximately one and a half kilometers that connect two important education institutions.

Interacting with the volunteer group on Saturday, they informed that the connecting road was last repaired by the Urban Department some eight years ago and the road is currently in deplorable condition, restricting even for the small vehicles to drop the students to school.

They further informed that in April 2021, they approached the concerned department to take stock of the situation, wherein they were informed that the repairing of the said road would commence by August, which was never fulfilled.

With no positive response from the department concerned, the volunteers have started the road repairing work by collecting monetary and other kinds among themselves for the welfare of the public.

The volunteers informed that they have unloaded 15 dumper load of boulders and other materials so far, while two backhoe excavators have been pressed into action.  They have planned to use road rollers to compact soil, gravel, level the road and construct a concrete road in the coming days.

Around 150 residents have contributed both in monetary and labour to construct the road.
