Nagaland Veteran & Sub-Veteran Badminton underway

KOHIMA, JULY 17

The 2nd All Nagaland Veteran & Sub-Veteran Badminton Tournament 2015 got underway today at Badminton Stadium, Kohima. A total of 40 teams with eighty players are taking part in the two-day championship being organized by the Evening Club, Kohima.
The tournament would be conducted in knock-out basis, and is meant only for doubles for both categories.
Gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Rovilato Mor stressed on the importance of physical exercise to keep the body fit.
He encouraged the youth and the upcoming generation to partake in games and sports activities so as to keep their body fit and sound. He advised the young generation to start maintaining their health from tender age.
He said the Nagas can only move ahead in the field of sports by firstly disciplining their health. He observed that the food habits of the Nagas, consuming non vegetarian items with heavy calories, doesn’t correspond in building up to be a sportsperson to compete at the highest level.The winners and runners-up of both categories will walk home richer with Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively. The closing ceremony would be held on Saturday at 5 pm.
Earlier, the invocation was pronounced by Akumtila Kikon, while the keynote address was delivered by Bendangyanger, tournament convenor. The programme was chaired by Aochuba.
Meanwhile, the organizers have informed that the inter-district tournament would be held in August 4-7, 2015, for which the selection for Kohima district would be held on July 25.
