Nagaland needs more colleges offering PG courses, says ANCSU
Dimapur, Oct. 1 (EMN): Observing the urgent need of more colleges offering post graduate courses in the state, the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) in a representation to the Nagaland University (NU) vice chancellor appealed to the varsity to promptly assess eligible colleges that have applied to offer post graduate courses and approve the same for the forthcoming academic session.
The union stated that this will enable the few aspiring students to study master courses from the state itself, and will also effectively facilitate the underlying problems arising from the global pandemic.
While touring the colleges, the ANCSU said it found out that many colleges are facing massive inconveniences to travel to Lumami for receiving and dispatching files and documents due to long distance; similar inconveniences are also faced by students. Therefore, it requested the NU to open facilitation centres at Meriema, Kohima campus and SETM in Dimapur campus respectively to facilitate submission and receiving documents.
The ANCSU also stated that it would appreciate if the university can also come up with online payment provisions to the university by the colleges or transaction be made through the facilitation centre.
The union also appealed to the university to strictly adhere to the University Grants Commission guidelines with requisite qualifications in appointing assistant and associate professors of both private and government colleges. It also requested the university to be vigilant in regard to payment of salary by institutions to the faculty as per the UGC guidelines.
The ANCSU said it has been felicitating the degree toppers since 2018 and it is observed to be of great encouragement to the students. In this regard, it also urged the university to issue meritorious certificate and medal to the subject toppers annually along with the issuance of mark sheet or convocation certificate.
While acknowledging the commitment made by the NU in declaring the degree results on time, the union requested for timely release of necessary documents for further admissions into other institutes outside the state.
Pointing out that students faced untold hardship in acquiring original pass certificate and migration certificate over the years, it asked the university to expedite the required procedures or adopt alternative mode as proposed like facilitation centres which can be used as a medium of communication.
