Dimapur, May 19 (EMN): Nagaland Law Students Federation (NLSF) has stated that some officials from the Land Record and Survey office are arbitrarily charging fees for land verification/spot verification for NOC, Jamabandi, land holding certificate etc. and cautioned the officials that they are liable for prosecution under the law.

A press release from the students body stated that some officials, on the pretext of speeding up the process, charge fees amounting to a few thousand from the public violating their service rules. The union informed that residents of Cadastral area/town area/surveyed area are not to pay any charges to the officials except the government prescribed fees.

The general public are also requested to inform the officials of NLSF at 8119997222, 9612551127, 9366054219 if any official is found indulging in such activities.

Meanwhile, the union also condemned the incident that took place on the night of May 15 at Pezielietsie (Tinpati), Kohima, where a student leader and his fellow friend from the Sumi community were assaulted by some miscreants.

The union condemned the unruly act committed by certain rogue individuals with a hatred towards a tribal community.

While wishing the victims a speedy recovery, the union requested the concerned authority to take action against the accused as per the law and stated that ‘Naga society cannot succumb to tribalism and this kind of behaviour  should be nipped in the bud’.
