Diphu, May 19 (EMN): Former United People’s Democratic Council (UPDS) leaders and cadres have alleged that the former chairman of UPDS, Monsing Senar alias Longsodar Senar and former finance secretary, Dhonsing Rongpi sold the the Karbi National Trust (KNT) land (8 katha), located in front of the tri-junction leading to now dismantled Diphu Civil Hospital in Diphu town, to Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

Former defence secretary, Mathew Engleng, in a press conference held at District Press Club of Karbi Anglong, Diphu, informed that the UPDS has its liaison office in front of the tri-junction of now dismantled Diphu Civil Hospital.

After the signing of the MoS with the Assam and central government in 2011, the liaison office was registered as KNT office with the sole purpose of continuing the relationship of all former cadres and leaders and for welfare.

“We have come to know from reliable sources that our former chairman, Monsing Senar and former finance secretary, Dhansing Rongpi sold the land of KNT to CEM Tuliram Ronghang. To know the reality, we went to enquire in the ARO office here and found the name of the CEM. Some have informed that the land was sold at INR 35 lakh per katha, while others said it was sold at INR 25 lakh per katha”, Engleng said.

He went on to add that the land does not belong to the former chairman of UPDS or to any individual. ‘The land purchase and KNT was constituted for the welfare of former UPDS cadres. The land cannot be sold by a decision of one or two persons. It has to be discussed collectively at the central executive committee of the KNT, then only, any final decision can be taken’, he said.

Engleng also said the matter has been informed to MP Horensing Bey, former deputy chairman, KAAC Kangjang Terang and former executive member of KAAC, Surjyo Rongphar, who were all former leaders of UPDS.

The leaders and 57 former cadres attending the press conference expressed their desire to reclaim the land.
