Dimapur, Nov. 29 (EMN): With the commencement of Zunheboto-Aghunato-Kiphire road construction under 100 RCC 15 BRTF Project Sewak, the Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) has appealed to the Border Roader Organisation (BRO) to maintain quality workmanship.

Having informed of poor quality workmanship at the ongoing construction project, ESSU stated that its officials met the officer in-charge of the project, Captain Shivam, in which he stated that work on road stretching to 100-200 metre was done for the testing of the machinery and equipment. It stated that the officer has assured to undertake the construction work as per detail project report (DPR).

ESSU has also drawn the attention of the BRO that the drainage in the entire stretch of road starting from Zunheboto to Aghunato and beyond is almost non-existent for the past several years and the main road regularly becomes a river bed during the monsoon season. It stated that prevailing situation has led to further deterioration of the road conditions causing stagnation of rain water, landslides and the road becoming narrower.

ESSU also appealed to BRO to permanently station one land excavator (JCB) in Aghunato to meet all emergency situations at all times. Besides, it also urged the BRO to mobilise machineries and remove all the landslides, rockslides and clogged drainages for quality workmanship.

ESSU stated that it would be closely monitoring the entire renovation work in close coordination with all the civil bodies of Aghunato area. The union further sought the cooperation of public with BRO to enable them carry out the work without any hindrance.
