Naga students conference underway at Ukhrul

The second day of the 4-day XI All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) conference marked with the unvieling of a monolith by Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLA Samuel Risom of Ukhrul constituency at Wino bazar in Manipur’s Ukhrul town, about 84 km north of Imphal.Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang was scheduled to be airlifted from Kohima by a helicofter to unveil the monolith of the conference besides hoisting the conference flag.
But due to bad weather in Kohima and subsequent busy schedule of the Chief Minister because of financial year ending and other emergency works, the trip has been cancelled.
This was also conveyed by the Nagaland Chief Minister Zelinag in his message which was read out by MLA Samuel Risom who attended the conference as chief guest on behalf of the Nagaland Chief Minister while addressing the day’s gathering.
Nagaland Chief Minister also extended his warm greeting to the XI ANSAM General Conference, through his message.
Reminding the Naga Political issue, the message also reminded to all Naga citizens, Naga organization and civil societies to unite and fight for the common Naga cause, and collectively work for the peace process for peacefull resolution of the Naga Political Issue.
In his statement Zeliang also stressed on the Educated and talented youths for generating self employment and entrepreneurship instead of seeking government jobs or compete in the all India Services, where there are vast opportunities for gainful employment.
Earlier the conference flag was hoisted by another NPF MLA ST Victor Nunglung of Chandel at Tangkhul Naga Long(TNL) ground in the hill town dominated by Tangkhul community.
TNL president Weapon Zimik, former United Naga Council(UNC) president Adani and other official of Naga civil organizations also attended the day’s inaugural session along with more than 400 delegates from 16 Naga tribes including delegates from two sub-ordinates unit of ANSAM.
On the day one of the conference, UNC president Gaidon Kamei and Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul district Modak Hrisheekesh attended as dignitaries of the introductory session at the conference main hall. Initially the cultural show and other entertainment programmes of the day two were disturbed by the seasonal downpour.
But the organizers managed to continue it afterwards.
