Naga ‘child scientists’ shine at national congress

Under the aegis of the Nagaland Institute of Health, Environment and Social Welfare (NIHESW), Kohima, eight child scientists from Nagaland attended the 23rd National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) held at Chandigarh University at Mohali, Punjab, from December 27 to 31.
The Congress was attended by more than 2000 students from all over India including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar. Top scientists, bureaucrats and public luminaries from the country also took part in the five day event.
The students from Nagaland presented their research projects along with all others during the Congress. They were all awarded medals and citations for taking part in the annual children’s mega science event.
The students were Miss Keneisenuo Caryn Kire and Miss Nengliankim Mikhal Kamson from Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Kohima; Miss Shoniu Shiu and Miss Tungam Rokam from Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima; Miss Nguluonuo from Christ King Higher Secondary School, Kohima; Bendangtoshi Longkumer from Bethel Higher Secondary School, Kohima; Miss Temjenmenla from Holy Family School, Kohima; and Miss Nilotoli from Cornerstone School, Zunheboto.
Two other child scientists from Nagaland took part in the Indian Science Congress at Mysore University in Karnataka which was held from January 3 to 7. They were Miss Chumbeno from Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima, and Miss Mayanglila Longkumer from Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Kohima.
The National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) is a program of the National Council for Science & Technology Communications under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. It is aimed to infuse in children the spirit of innovation in the field of science and technology. It involves carrying out small research activities of school level. The Nagaland Institute of Health, Environment & Social Welfare is the organizer of the program for Nagaland.
