Governor stresses on textile industry to boost economy

NEZCE Shilpagram, Panjabari, Guwahati, is organising a short term workshop on handloom and shitalpatti from January 4 to 10. The main aim and objective was to promote the women artisans to skill up and upgrade them with the new designing technique, developing diversified product and to grab the correct market.
A release from Raj Bhavan, Kohima stated that PB Acharya, Governor of Nagaland Assam & Chairman of NEZCC, visited on the third day of the workshop at Shilpagram, Panjabari, Guwahati, on January 6. He visited the textile weaving section department where he had a brief interaction with the designer, Miss Beauty Mili; master trainers Nisha Das, Chandika Deori and Laila Anzuara Rahman and the 15 artisans.
The Governor disseminated knowledge about the correct way of yarn purchasing, yarn colour fastness and how the work process should run in today’s life. He stressed that textile industry could benefit the designers, master trainers and all the artisans.
The Governor also visited the handicraft department where shitalpatti work was going on. Impressed with the Shitalpatti work, he showed eagerness to know how the works were done.
Moushumi Saikia, designer of shitalpatti, gave him the brief knowledge about shitalpatti work, how it is manufactured, weaving process and how they have come up with diversified product and the product value in the market. It was a great interaction with the master trainers namely Sarala Nandi, Susitra Rayit, and Anita Saikai along with the artisans present there.
After visiting the handloom and handicraft section, the Governor held a short interaction with the designers, master trainers and all the artisans in the presence of EB/ GB members namely Mrs. Baby Bhuyan, Dr. Mallika Kandali and Mrs Murchana Bhuyan.
