Dimapur, May 12

Community organizations are lending their support to the proposed May 14 campaign by a group of citizens to protest the lack of good roads in the state. Going by the name ‘Concerned Citizens of Nagaland’ a group of likeminded individuals will be undertaking an anti-trust campaign in Dimapur, demanding ‘good roads.’

Joining the line, the Business Association of Nagas (BAN) issued a statement on Thursday expressing full support to the Concerned Citizens of Nagaland and their campaign. The business community said that the condition of the roads in Nagaland was a stark contrast to the palatial residence and luxurious vehicles that dot Nagaland.

“Bad roads and contrast to that luxurious cars and big buildings are indicators of a rampant corruption in the society; the issue raised and initiated by the Concerns Citizens of Nagaland is genuine one and a pressing one for the whole of Nagas.

BAN appeals to all its members and the citizens of Nagaland to come forth and support this great initiative of the people,” the BAN stated.

A day ago too, the Dimapur District Congress Committee had issued a similar statement of support to the group.  The Congress had noted the dilapidated condition of roads across Nagaland, especially those ones in the commercial hub of Dimapur. “…the District Congress Committee Dimapur has decided to express their solidarity with the Concern Citizens of Nagaland to campaign against the deplorable road conditions in Nagaland on May 14,” the Congress unit had stated on Wednesday.

In support, the Congress had also asked its workers to support an initiative of the local citizens and extend all cooperation that could be needed.  “(The) District Congress Committee Dimapur therefore appeals to all party workers of their respective ward/village unit to co-operate with the Concern Citizens of Nagaland by participating in this campaign.”
