Mumbai returnee tests Covid-19 positive in Manipur

Imphal, May 14 (EMN): A new Covid-19 case has been reported in Manipur, taking the total cases in the state to three so far, according to an official update.

The state was recently declared coronavirus-free after its two patients were discharged from the hospital.

A 31-year-old man from Imphal East district, who had returned from Mumbai with a non-Covid patient in a hired vehicle on May 13, was tested positive for the virus on Thursday, informed Additional Director and spokesperson of the state’s Health department Dr. Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, in a press release.

Informing that the patient has been sent to Covid-19 treatment block/isolation ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), the press release said contact tracing and active surveillance in the containment zone would be done immediately.

As a precautionary arrangement, district rapid response and surveillance teams have been constituted in all the districts. Covid-19 treatment block at JNIMS and Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) are ready to treat patients, it said.

Informing that quarantining of returnees for 14 days and social distancing are vital to break the spread of Covid-19 in Manipur, everyone has been requested to co-operate for collective safety.

It may be mentioned that the first Covid-19 case was reported on March 24 and the second patient on April 2. Both the patients recovered after undergoing treatment from two government hospitals in Imphal. The first patient was discharged from the hospital on April 12 and the other on April 21.
