Dilong, Tongdentsuyong, Mongsenbai, Marepkong, Penli, Lijaba Lijen, Artang, Sangtemla secure quarter final berth

Mokokchung, May 7 (EMN): Dilong, Tongdentsuyong, Mongsenbai, Marepkong, Penli, Lijaba Lijen, Artang and Sangtemla wards entered the quarter finals of the ongoing Mokokchung Inter-Ward Football tournament on Saturday.
In the first match, Tongdentsuyong defeated home ground team Arkong by 2-1 to book their berth in the quarters. Arkong needed a win to progress to the next round, however, Tongdentsuyong’s Opanglemzung double goal was enough to overcome them.
Opanglemzung found the much needed goal in the 14 minute of the match, while Arkong equalised the score in 51 minutes through Temsutoshi.
However, much to the dismay of Arkong, Opanglemzung again levelled the score 2-1 in the 55th minute and ending the campaign of Arkong in the tournament.
Tongdentsuyong needed a better goal margin to top the table, however, ending the match with a 2-1 victory, they ended up as the runner-up to qualify for the quarters from Group A.
Bendangsunep’s hat-trick helped Dilong to humiliate Kumlong by 5-0 and emerge as Group A leader. In a one sided match, Dilong started its full swing offense and the team opened the scoring in the 27th minute through Toshiwapang and Temsuyanger in the 35th minute.
Bendangsunep scored for his team in 42th minute, 49th minute and 56th minute becoming the first hat-trick scorer of the tournament, which gave Dilong the much needed high goal margin to top Group A. With the defeat, Kumlong are now out of the tournament failing to win any match.
In a do-or-die match, Marepkong progressed to the quarter after beating Majakong with a solitary goal.
Both teams needed a win to progress to the next round and gave everything in the field and held their ground. However, the match went in favour of host team Marepkong, who nailed the coffin of Majakong via a free-kick by Takosunep in the 58th minute. The solitary goal was enough for Marepkong to settle for 3 point and a berth to the quarter.
Lijaba Lijen secured their berth in the quarter after defeating Aongza 2-0 in a must win match. Temsunungsang and Sungitlong scored for Lijaba Lijen in the 13th and 20th minute to secure three points to qualify for the quarters.
Lunuwapang’s solitary goal in the last minutes of the game gave Sangtemla the much needed win to qualify for the quarter round in the last match against Alempang. In a hard fought match, Lunuwapang landed his shot in the 57th minute, ending the campaign of Alempang in the tournament.
