Mokokchung, Oct. 1 (EMN): Defending champions Intermingle Club displayed their superiority in brutal fashion by demolishing new entrant Super-Vene United 9-0 in the opening match of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy 2019 at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung on Tuesday, October 1.

Hangie of Intermingle club scored his first hat-trick of the tournament, with Lanutoshi and Ratobe Zeliang scoring two goals apiece while Imsuwabang and Opanglemzung added a goal each in a one-sided match.

Imsuwabang and Opanglemzung made it 2-0 in the 7th and 11th minute of the game for Intermingle Club. Hangie also made his maiden hat-trick of the tournament in the 20th, 36th, and 38th minute extending the scored to 5-0.

Following the shelling of goals, Lanutoshi and Ratobe Zeliang added two goals each in the 40th, 58th, 60th and 67th minutes ending the match with a 9-0 win.

Earlier, the opening ceremony was attended by V Kashiho Sangtam, Minister for Soil and Water Conservation, Geology and Mining as the chief patron.

Sangtam in his address underscored that participation and hard-work will give more return than the cash prize or trophy. By participation, the richness will be returned in term of health, well-being, contentment, social and culture connection, therefore, accomplishing or falling in the tournament is not at all necessary, he said.

Sangtam also asserted that Nagas are more vocal and acting, then being practical and achieving. He was referring that Nagas are critic and not role models.

He also lamented that Nagas are yet to catch up with the neighbouring states of Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya in sports sector, and urged that to win back the proud achievement of our past leaders in the national level the present generation must strive harder than before.

“You have to strive for years together in the profession of your choice so that you are second to none,” he appealed the young generation of sports talents.

Eighteen teams divided into four pools are competing for the coveted trophy.
