Minister takes on un-starred questions on minor irrigation works

The minister for Public Health Engineering department (PHED) Jacob Zhimomi tabled details of minor irrigation projects under Water Resources programmes for the year 2008-2019, in the ongoing Nagaland Legislative Assembly session.

The minister informed that out of 1143 projects in 1143 villages of the 11 districts of the state—Kohima, Dimapur, Wokha, Zunheboto, Phek, Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire, Peren, Mokokchung and Longleng—about 873 projects have been completed by the Central ministries during the stipulated time. However, about 270 projects are ongoing, it was informed.

The minister was replying to an un-starred question raised by opposition legislator Kuzholuzo Nienu in the assembly on Saturday during day-two of the ongoing fifth session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

To an un-starred question asked by Nienu on how the criteria for selection of the projects are stipulated, Zhimomi replied that the minor irrigation projects are selected based on “preliminary survey report” conducted by field officers, and the component of feasibility of fulfilling requisite guidelines.

Meanwhile, when he was queried to furnish the list of ‘water users association’ in Nagaland, the minister in-charge of Water Resources responded that it is yet to be ‘registered.’

Ongoing projects in the districts
Kohima with 56, Dimapur 60, Wokha 9, Mokokchung 25, Phek 22, Zunheboto 13, Tuensang 13, Longleng 12, Kiphire 9, Mon 25, and Peren with 26. It totalled at 270.

More annual reports presented on day-2

On day-two of the fifth session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the chief minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, presented annual administrative reports 2019-2020 in the assembly namely for New and Renewable Energy; Employment, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship; State Council of Educational Research and Training, and Youth Resources, and Sports.

The annual administrative report for the department of cooperation was presented to the house by the minister for Agriculture and Cooperation G Kaito Aye. Minister for Planning and Co-ordination, Land Revenue, and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu presented the report for the department of Planning and Co-ordination.

P Paiwan Konyak, minister for Transport, Civil Aviation and Railways, and Land Resources presented the report for the department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, while minister for Rural Development Metsubo Jamir also presented the report for the department of Municipal Affairs.

The minister for Higher and Technical Education, Tribal Affairs laid the annual administrative report of the department of School Education.

Assembly committee reports
The Committee on Public Undertakings, 2019-2020, was presented by Dr. Neikiesalie Kire. The ‘Eighty First Report on the Examination of Audit’ paragraphs that appeared in the report of the Comptroller & Auditor General of India for the year 2011-2012 was presented.
Also, he presented the house the ‘Eighty Second Report of the Comptroller & Auditor General of India for the year 2011-2012’ pertaining to the Nagaland Hotels Limited under the department of Industries and Commerce.
