Dimapur, April 21 (EMN): A medical team from the office of the chief medical officer, Kiphire led by Dr. Pewezo Khalo, DPO (RCH/UIP), toured 14 villages in Kiphire district to sensitise accredited social health activist (Asha), Anganwadi workers, health units and village council members about the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on April 17 and the 18th.

An update from district media officer, CMO office, Haichikambe Pame informed that the medical team visited Kiusam circle, Pungro circle and Longmatra town during the two-day tour and distributed hand sanitisers, face masks, and gloves to all the Asha and Anganwadi workers in the villages and health units during the tour. The team also gave away face masks to village guards manning their respective village gates.

The medical team gave 100 kg of rice to health units in the villages, and 20 kg to Longmatra check post.

During the tour, Dr. Khalo interacted with the healthcare workers and village council leaders in all the villages besides addressing their requirements and instructing them about the work they should do in the fight against the Covid-19. He urged them to maintain discipline at every level and work together.

The DPO also asked the participants to sensitise families, especially to set up hand washing stands in all their houses with soap and water so that family members can wash their hands while leaving and entering their homes. He also emphasised on hygiene and sanitation, including practice of social distancing, cleanliness, and social etiquette of spitting, sneezing, and coughing.

During interaction sessions with Asha and Anganwadi workers in the villages, Seli (DCM) asked them to visit 25 households a day in their respective villages to monitor their wellbeing. He maintained that during the visit, if any suspected cases are detected, they should refer them to the nearest health units.

Meanwhile, the DCM directed all the Anganwadi workers to carry out home-to-home visits in their villages and sensitise the people about the importance of hand washing, cleanliness, and hygiene.
