Rev. Fr. Anish flagging off the Marathon at 7th Mile Junction in Chümoukedima on February 4.

Commemorating ‘World Cancer Awareness Day’ and to promote clean election, Education department of St. Joseph University (SJU), in collaboration with the district election office, Chümoukedima, organised a marathon on February 4.

An update from the university informed that the event was flagged-off by PRO of SJU, Rev. Fr. Anish, at 7th Mile Junction with the participation of 250 students and culminated at the university campus.

At the flag-off event, a short introduction on the importance of the occasion was delivered by Livi Yeptho, coordinator of the programme, while Rev. Fr. Sunny, professor of Education, thanked the administration, police, public and the officials of Information and Public Relations and the management of SJU for facilitating the event.

Also speaking on the occasion, Rev. Fr. Anish, called upon all to inspire others to be volunteers at the service of cancer affected persons stating that only then the theme of the day “To close the care gap” in the context of cancer would be possible. He also invited all the participants to rededicate themselves to democratic values in order to ensure clean election.

It stated that the event concluded with prize distribution, which was given away by Rev. Fr. Anish. It informed that Kaikho Boniface, 4th semester student of Commerce, secured the first position, while Rukuvisal Jedediah Rhetso, 2nd semester student of Political Science, secured the first runner-up and Pekiye T Achumi, 2nd semester student of Political Science, secured the second runner. It added that the first ten winners were rewarded with certificates.
