Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a solemn wreath laying ceremony in Kohima on February 2.

A defence release stated that the ceremony was organised to honour brave heart Rifleman Tek Bahadur Gurung, who laid down his life on February 3, 1967, while fighting against insurgents at Darlong in Champai district of Mizoram.

In another programme, Mon battalion of the Assam Rifles conducted a security meeting with villagers at Chenmoho and Lungwa in Mon district.

The meeting was conducted to facilitate cooperation with each other and to ensure incident-free conduct of upcoming assembly elections. The meeting was also utilised to spread awareness on SSC (GD) recruitment.

It stated that village angh, gaon buras, chairmen and other village elders attended the security meets. It mentioned that the villagers have submitted their requirements for consideration and also lauded the efforts undertaken by Assam Rifles.

Commemorating ‘World Cancer Day,’ Shamator battalion of the Assam Rifles organised an awareness lecture on cancer and free blood group test in Shamator Village on February 4. The programme was organised with an aim to educate the youth about various types of cancer.

The chief medical officer (CMO) of 14 Assam Rifles also emphasised about preventive measures of cancer.

In a related programme, Jalukie battalion of the Assam Rifles also organised an awareness lecture on cancer across Peren district on February 4.

It stated that the locals were made aware about likely causes, symptoms and precautions to avoid the lethal disease. During the programme, stress was laid on living healthy lifestyle, regular medical check-up, importance of exercise and eating balance diet.

It informed that a total of 59 villagers attend the lecture.
