Mao-Imphal market inaugurated

Imphal, April 8 (EMN): In an effort to strengthen the relationship between the hill and valley dwellers, besides building economic integrity, a temporary shed of the Mao-Imphal market was inaugurated on the eastern side of DM University campus in Imphal on Friday.

MLAs Losü Dikho of Mao, and K Robindro of Mayang Imphal along with district officials attended the inaugural function.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Dikho said that Manipur is a beautiful place, where different colour and section of people are living peacefully and went on to add that, “Mao-Imphal market is not just a business centre but will also build up good relationship among the people living within the state”.

Because of God’s blessing, Mao is quite fertile with people harvesting varieties of vegetables, flower, fruits etc., he stated and highlighted that even though Mao is not a big area, it contributes a lot to the state and even neighboring areas like Kohima and Dimapur, where the products are in demand as it is organic.

He further urged the people to contribute to society as a community instead of always demanding from the state.

MLA Robindro, former deputy speaker of the assembly in the previous government and key functionaries of Mao community also spoke on the occasion, which was attended by the representatives of the Mao Business Women Union (MBWU) and civil society organisations.

Later, representatives of the MBWU visited the state chief minister with local products. Sharing the photographs of the visit in a tweet, N Biren Singh wrote, “Delighted to share that the temporary Mao market is now open at North AOC. On the occasion, the women of temporary Mao market visited and presented me some local products as a token of love. It is the love and support of the people from different walks of life that inspires me to walk the extra mile every single day.”

It may be mentioned that Mao market was first opened (Imphal) in July 2015.
