Dimapur, June 29 (EMN): Special judge of the fast track special court (FTSC), Dimapur, on Tuesday sentenced a 45-year-old man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of INR 20,000 after being convicted of raping a minor girl.
The accused, Tsenyemo Ngullie, was convicted under section 4 and 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) 2012 in connection with the rape case of a 10-year-old girl more than three years ago.
While pronouncing the judgement, Special Judge V Nyekha stated that sexual violence, apart from being a dehumanising act, is an unlawful intrusion on the right of privacy and sanctity of a female.
The judge added that a rapist not only causes physical injuries but also leaves indelible scar on the victim’s dignity, honour, reputation and chastity, and that ‘offenders do not deserve a place in the society’.
The special public prosecutor of Dimapur, Imlimongla, stated in an update that women police personnel arrested the offender from Burma Camp on October 10, 2017, a day after the mother of the victim filed an FIR at the Dimapur women police station.
The case was investigated by sub-inspector Lucy Doungel and conducted by special public prosecutor Imlimongla.
According to the police report during the preliminary investigation, the convict had committed the crime on different occasions.
