Dimapur, July 24 (EMN): Asserting that there are enough infrastructural facilities to accommodate 60 students in a batch, the Sumi Hoho and its frontal organisations have urged the state government to expedite the process towards establishing the Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu (KPA) to a full-fledged degree engineering college beginning from 2022.

The appeal to this effect was taken during an executive meeting of the Sumi Hoho held on July 23, wherein the hoho affirmed its earlier resolution to upgrade KPA to a full-fledged engineering college. An update from Sumi Hoho, in a joint statement issued by its president, Nikheto Zhimomi, and the general secretary, Dr. Vihuto Asumi, stated that the hoho also resolved to fully support the college authority in their move to upgrade the college.

Earlier, a consultative meeting was held on July 21 at KPA, which initiated by MLA of Atoizu Picto Shohe, wherein representatives from the district administration, KPA administration, Sumi Hoho and other frontal organisations, Atoizu area civil societies and landowners attended the meeting.

The members congratulated the KPA fraternity for having got accredited by the national board of accreditation (NBA). The members also conveyed gratitude to the chief minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Imna Temjen Along, advisor of Technical Education and Election Medo Yhokha, MLA Picto Shohe, department officers and all the leaders who were involved in the process of accreditation.

It mentioned that KPA, the older polytechnic in Nagaland, which was established in the year 1972, was approved by the cabinet decision in December 2007 to upgrade to engineering college.

The hoho also stated that the landowners have reaffirmed their earlier decision to sell the land to the department as per the scheduled rate of the government, which would be free from all encumbrances. The landowners and local-based organisations have also assured their cooperation to the government in the process for upgradation of the college.

Meanwhile, the hoho appealed to the deputy chief minister, who is also the minister of Home and in-charge of Roads and Bridges to repair the road from Akuluto to Khitsakita via Asukhuto and from Doyang to Atoizu and also to create a police outpost at Asukhuto where KPA is located.

The hoho further expressed gratitude to the minister of Public Health Engineering department, Jacob Zhimomi, for assuring to connect water supply to KPA at the earliest.
