Mahindra (Trucks and Bus Division) and Tetso College kick off ‘Pow-woW 2017’

Dimapur, March 17 (EMN): Mahindra(Trucks and Bus Division) and Tetso College kicked off the two day Pow-wow Inter College festival on Friday, March 17 2017 at Tetso College in a fast paced and energetic first day comprising of events like Basketball, Badminton, Counterstrike and many more. The festival is a two day event comprising of both sports and elocution events ranging from Paper presentations and debate competition on the topic “Is 33% Reservation for Women Necessary in Nagaland”?. Nine colleges are participating in the Inter-College event, namely Cornerstone College, Immanuel College, Unity College, Hindi College, Sakus Mission College, Public College of Commerce, Salesian College, Tetso College and Dimapur Government College. The event also announced the launch of a selfie contest with a Rs 5000/- gift hamper from party village Sovima, details of which are on the official Tetso College facebook page.
The event is being organised by Tetso College in association with Mahindra (Trucks and Buses Division). Technical assistance for the badminton competition is being provided by The Dimapur District Badminton Association while prizes for the various events have been sponsored by various local businesses, namely – Hillstar Cinemas, Mystique Spa and Salon, Naga Bowl and Grill Restaurant, Tribal Group which comprises of their sports stores – gravity, G- Sports shop Chumukedima, Party VillageSovima, Brand New Day which deals in Financial Services, Victor showroom at Kuda Cafe and Baskin Robins Ice cream Chumkedima.
Highlights for day one included basketball matches, badminton and counterstrike event. The results are as follows:
Basketball (Men): In a keenly fought match 1st round basketball Mens match Ssalesians College managed to easily trounce their completion beating Immanuel College by scoring 76 baskets. In other group Unity College beat Dimapur Government College and Sakus Mission College to face Tetso College in the basketball semi finals to be held on Saturday, March 18. Tetso College managed to get a bye in their round and beat Public College of Commerce to reach the semi Finals.
Basketball (Women): Four College participated in the womens basketball. Tetso College managed to beat Dimapur Government College while Unity College beat Sakus Mission College. They will face each other in the finals.
Counterstrike: Online gaming competitions were also held where Tetso College, Unity College and Cornerstone took part in an engaging fast paced match. Tetso College and Unity College Counterstrike teams will be facing each other in the Finals on day two.
Badminton (Doubles – Women) Dimapur Government College reached the finals of the badminton tournament beating Unity College, Dimapur College and Public College of Commerce. They will face Sakus Mission College who beat got a bye and beat Tetso College in the Semi Final match.
Badminton (Doubles – Men): The Badminton Finals will be between Tetso College and Hindi College. Both colleges faced tough semi-final matches against their opponents, Sakus Mission College and Salesian College respectively.
Debate, Resarch paper presentation, stand up comedy and the finals of the sports events will be held on Saturday, March 18. Entry is free and everyone is invited to come cheer and support their college teams.
Altogether 9 colleges from Dimapur are participating in the festival to compete in events like Sports and literary, entertainment etc. This inter college festival is aimed to unite all the colleges in a non-formal way, to expose talents and give a platform for working out their capacities to their full potential, to encourage in them a spirit of teamwork.
The inaugural function was hosted by Elizabeth Kath and Kimyeni Grace of BA 2nd semester. The inaugural address was given by Kvulo Lorin, Director Administration, Tetso College and a short speech by the Atanu Paul, sales manager of Mahindra Trucks and buses. After the opening session, the festival resumed immediately. The finale will be held on the second day where the winners of the various events and the overall champion will be declared and awarded with exciting gifts and certificates.
