Dimapur, May 9 (EMN): Livingstone Foundation International College Dimapur, department of Education and Psychology visited St. Mary’s Montessori Hr. Sec. School on May 6.
The students and teachers visited a special classroom run by St. Mary’s Montessori Hr. Sec. School to interact with the teachers and special children and to understand their needs, learning conditions and the type of education provided by the Institute. This was a part of a practical academic exercise for the honours students of the two departments, an update from the college stated.
It said that the special classroom was established in 2004. A total of 18 students are currently enrolled in the school.
It said that there are children ranging from as young as four to 17 years with conditions such as physically challenged, down syndrome, intellectual disability, autism, slow learners, low vision, hearing impaired and mute etc. They are professionally manned by two specially trained teachers.
The school makes use of learning aids received from the central govt. as well as their own resources, it said.
Each child is guided to learn at their own pace correspondingly accommodating to his/her disabilities. It said that the children attend school in proper school uniform from Monday to Saturday.
Altogether eight students and two teachers from the college took part in the interaction programme, it added.
