Lenien Jamir receives All-MAAC 2022 Honors again

Dimapur, April 26 (EMN): Lenien Jamir of Monmouth University women’s tennis team has received the All-MAAC 2022 Honors for the second consecutive season.

Jamir was among 38 student-athletes announced by MAAC to the 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team on April 22.

Jamir was selected to the All-MAAC second team list at fourth position in singles category (tennis) representing Monmouth University, which was voted on by the league’s seven head coaches.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Jamir is in sophomore year with political science as major at Monmouth University, New Jersey in the United States.

Jamir is the first-ever tennis player from Nagaland to join a US university to play in the US collegiate tennis circuit with a full-time athletic scholarship by the women’s tennis team of Monmouth University.

Jamir started playing tennis when she was six after her mother asked her to pick a sport to play and from then on there was no looking back. She has won numerous championships in national and international-ranked tournaments across India as well as other Asian and African nations.

Taking to Twitter, the official account of Nagaland Olympic Association wrote ‘Congrats to Ms. Lenien Jamir for being named to MAAC 2022 Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team for the 2nd year. She is on a scholarship at Monmouth University in the USA, hails from Mokokchung, Nagaland & the 1st tennis player from Nagaland to join the US collegiate tennis circuit’.
