Dimapur, July 12 (EMN): ICAR-KVK Peren, ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jalukie, organised a Swachhta awareness-cum-cleanliness drive under its Swachhta action plan at Heraka Vidya Bharati School, Veeragana Gaidinlui campus in Jalukie ‘B’ on July 12.
Dr. Patu K Zeliang, ACTO, PBG, KVK Peren, who chaired the programme, has highlighted about Swachh Bharat Mission, while Z. James Kikon, ACTO Soil Science, KVK Peren, spoke on cleanliness drive as the main theme of Swachh Bharat and importance of hygienic living. He urged the students to practice cleanliness at school, home and locality by proper disposal of waste and also segregate the bio-degradable and non-degradable waste and making use of them in low-cost vermicomposting.
Dr. KL Meena, principal scientist and head of KVK Peren, shared a brief review of various activities and addressed the students on contaminated environment which in result affect directly or indirectly on human health, an update from KVK Peren stated. It stated that students were encouraged to take initiative on Swachhta activities and even on Agri-allied activities by maintaining nutri-garden and waste management in the school campus.
G Dakoi Rongmei, inspector of the school, delivered the vote of thanks.
A demonstration on low-cost vermicomposting with easily available kitchen wastes and other bio degradable wastes was conducted after the programme.
Altogether, 34 students and staff of KVK, Peren, attended the programme.
