DIMAPUR — Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren, under ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, organised a five-day skilled training on ‘Pig rearing and management with special reference to artificial insemination for promotion of pig breeding and quality piglet production’ from May 22 to the 26th at its office premises in Jalukie town.
An update from KVK Peren stated that the inaugural programme on May 22 was chaired by Dr. L Babita Devi, CTO (Animal Science) and course director, wherein she also delivered the keynote address, while Dr. KL Meena, principal scientist abd head of KVK Peren, delivered the welcome address.
TL Kiusumong Tikhir, ADC of Jalukie and special guest, congratulated KVK Peren for organising such a needful training and also encouraged the participants to learn from the training for practical application.
Dr. I Shakuntala, dean of CVSc, CAU, Jalukie, and guest of honour, highlighted the importance of scientific technologies for animal rearing and also on the importance of establishing breeding unit for sustainability. She also encouraged the participants about AI technology for production of good quality piglets and ensured collaboration from the college.
The inaugural programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Z James Kikon, ACTO (Soil Science), KVK Peren.
It stated that 14 theory sessions and three practical sessions covering all the aspects of pig rearing and management, housing, feeding, disease managements and artificial insemination technology were imparted by experts from KVK Peren, KVK Dimapur, ICAR Nagaland Centre and CVSc, CAU, Jalukie, during the five-day training. A one-day practical field visit to ICAR Nagaland Centre was also organised.
The training was attended by 20 participants from four blocks of Peren district.
At the valedictory session, the participants gave feedback on the training. Certificates and veterinary medicines like mineral mixture, vitamin and Iron supplement, potash etc. were also distributed to the participants.
