Kohima DTFI targets to eliminate MR by December

Dimapur — Kohima district task force for immunisation (DTFI) has sought coordinated effort between departments to eliminate Measle-Rubella (MR) from the district by December 2023.

The members have discussed the issue during its meeting held on Thursday under the leadership of the deputy commissioner of Kohima, Shanavas C, in his office’s conference hall. A DIPR report stated that the members have discussed on the ongoing efforts to eliminate Measle Rubella (MR) by December 2023 and stressed on the importance of coordinated efforts between departments for success of the immunisation programme.

Besides, the members have discussed on various initiatives including the Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI), MR elimination drive, routine immunisation (RI) and national de-worming day.

It mentioned that IMI 5.0 aims to target under-vaccinated children and pregnant women through multiple sessions from August to October. It added that flexibility in timing has been incorporated to ensure maximum coverage.

During the meeting, Dr. Sheila from WHO presented a comprehensive overview of IMI 5.0, focusing on its rationale and strategies. Speaking on the vaccination coverage disparities, Dr. Sheila emphasised on the need to raise awareness in rural areas and address communication challenges.

It stated that updates were provided on the MR elimination drive, routine immunisation, and national de-worming day by DPO (RCH/UIP), Dr. Khrievilhou Nakhro.

It added that the members have stressed on the need to involve the Education and Social Welfare departments in spreading awareness.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner has suggested adding the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) representative to the district task force for immunisation (DTFI) to enhance outreach efforts. He further urged close coordination and regular reviews for a successful MR elimination drive.
