Kire dares students to broaden their horizons

Addressing the Zeliangrong Students’ Union Kohima (N), Dr Nicky Kire, Minister Forest, Environment & Wildlife opined that in the present day, the students have to be practical and broaden their horizon, stating it is a matter of survival for each individual in this tough competitive world.
He was addressing the Zeliangrong students at the 39th annual conference of ZSUK (N) held today at De Oriental Grand Hotel, Kohima.Exhorting students, he said getting degree is just the beginning to the path where one has decided to venture, and urged the students to achieve great things in life and try to do something worthwhile for the community, since it will be their turn tomorrow to share the responsibilities in looking after the community and serving the people.
Also sharing his concern on the rise of unemployment problem in the state, he opined that there are plenty of avenues out there apart from government jobs, but we are not looking into it. Stating that the government has never promised a government job for every family, he said ‘We Nagas have advantages since we can speak fluent English, are cordial and caring. Therefore firms and companies from outside the state are willing to employ Naga boys and girls.’
Therefore, he encouraged the students to take skill development trainings and programmes which would help them in finding out areas of their interests.
Dr Nicky also called upon that Zeliangrong students not to be under the shadow of the backward tag, stating there are many educated people at par with other tribes, and therefore, he said it is not wise and urged them to try to work out ways to get out of the ‘tag’.
Asappe Khate in his presidential address shared a brief history of the Zeliangron Students Union Kohima, which was formed way back in 1976, and called upon the members for their cooperation and participation to serve the Zeliangrong community in particular and the Nagas in general.
Reminding the students of its most important and foremost duty is to study, he said its achievement and success is for the whole community.
‘We live in a competitive world. We should run the race with speed and consistency. Be realistic, reponsible and take care of our society. We should unite for glory and wisdom to bring a better future’ he stated.
The programme started with an invocation said by Pastor, Liangmai, Baptist Church, Bayavü and benediction offered by Liwang Newme, Deacon, Zeme Baptist Church, Kohima.
The morning formal session was followed by election of new office bearers, pageant contest and entertainment.
