Keviliekho Zumvü is Nagaland chess champion

KOHIMA— Keviliekho Zumvü won the 19th Nagaland Chess Championship 2023 title, the event which culminated here at the Nagaland Olympic Association complex, Kohima, on Friday.

Zumvü emerged winner in the open category and bagged INR 50,000 along with trophy. Salhouto Nyekha, Sede Nagi and Seyiekhrietuo Mere bagged second, third and fourth positions and received INR 30,000, INR 20,000, and INR 10,000, respectively.

They four will be representing Nagaland at the forthcoming National Chess Championship scheduled to be held in Pune, Maharashtra, in August.

For under-8 category, Shenikali Hesso of Model Higher Secondary School Kohima secured top position and won INR 10,000. Pulonito Hesso, Jesse P Chishi and Viboka Awomi won the second, third and fourth positions, respectively.

For the under-14 category, Jitihto Nyekha from Touch of Hope School Chümoukedima won the first position and received INR 10,000.  Meanwhile, Arho Rupreo, Neipedezo Metha, Thejasezo Metha and Mereh Doulo won the second, third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

In the individual category, the best female participant went to Tsesam, youngest player to Domian Lyngdoh and oldest player to K Sekhamo. All the participants were awarded with certificates.

Mughaho Awomi, chief arbiter of the championship officially declared the winners.

The three-day event was organised by the Nagaland Chess Association NCA.
