Dimapur, July 21 (EMN): Appalled at repeated infighting within the Naga People’s Front (NPF) party for power thereby putting the development and welfare of the people at stake, Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) today urged the NPF legislators to resign enmass and pave way for early elections so that fresh people could run the affairs of the State.
“Having mandated by the people to uplift the State in all spheres for the third-time in 2013, this NPF-III government has nothing worth its achievements for the people of the State but has been busily engaged within the party leadership crisis while also involving in forcing their wrong decisions upon the general public,” alleged KDCC president Kevi Vizo.
He expressed astonishment that TR Zeliang, who had to vacate the chair of chief minister in the aftermath of the public uprising against the his government decision to hold elections to Urban Local Bodies leading to the killing of two youth and injuring many other in February, managed to get back the chair through whatever means.
Stating that tears of the deceased families have not dry yet and the memory was still fresh of the entire episode, KDCC reminded Zeliang that taking over as the chief minister will be adding salt to the wound.
“It is an accepted fact that NPF is running the affairs of the State through peoples’ mandate, but are the NPF legislators so incapable that they have to bring back someone because of whom Naga people had to shed so much tears?, KDCC questioned.
In the light of the above stated circumstances, KDCC urged the NPF legislators to resign enmass and pave way for early elections so that fresh people will take run the affairs of the State if they find themselves incompetent to lead the Naga people.
Meanwhile, with regard to Congress not setting up candidate for the ensuing bye-election to 10-Northern Angami-I Constituency, KDCC apprised the general public that as one of the oldest political party in the country, Congress is firm to uphold the provisions of the Representation of Peoples’ Act, which states that bye-election cannot be held if the tenure of the present House is less than a year.
Stating that it was focused on bringing the much required change of government in the 2018 State general elections, KDCC appealed the public to continue rendering their support in installing a Congress government in order to take the State towards development and progress.
