Karbi Anglong: One arrested for sexual assault on minor

Diphu, July 17 (EMN): In a shocking incident, an employee of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council’s legislative branch identified as one Tarasing Rongpi (33) was arrested by Diphu Police on Thursday night from his residence in Council Colony in Diphu town on charge of sexual exploitation on a minor girl.

The co-ordinator of Karbi Anglong Childline, Bulu Terang, informed that one person approached its office on Thursday for help with a complain that his daughter had been sexually assaulted for a year by one person employed at the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council in legislative branch. Terang had asked the girl’s father to take the help of police since it was related to sexual assault and a POSCO case following which an FIR was lodged at Diphu police station.

Speaking to media persons, officer in-charge of Diphu police station Chiraj Engti confirmed that an FIR has been lodged and a case registered against the accused. He informed that the accused has been taken into custody and put under lockup and interrogation was on.

Meanwhile, the victim’s father told that he had kept his daughter at the residence of Tarasing Rongpi in Diphu for study as well as domestic helper since they were from a remote place.

“Since one year, my 14-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted by Tarasing Rongpi,” alleged the victim’s father. He added that the matter came to light after being told by his daughter.
