Kohima, Sep. 30 (EMN):
Padmashri Kailash Kher, spiritual and Bollywood Sufi singer, lyricist, and music composer said music/ musician has a vast role to make the world more beautiful.

Kher stated this while speaking during a webinar as special guest on a talk show on “Making a career in music industry,” organised by the Phek district administration and the district level centre for women (DLCW) – Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao on September 30.

According to him one must earn hearts and souls before earning money, which according to him, is lagging in today’s world. Kher maintained that music and the creativity- the purpose that it serves is the greatest thing. He stated that there is a communication gap, lack of industry and market for the artist and music.

He therefore stressed on the need to bridge the gaps by collaborating with artists and musicians of various regions by embracing each other’s culture and exploring the talents and places.

He said, “Northeast and Nagaland is a land of miracle, where every soul is full of music and happiness. Let’s exchange this happiness and not be stuck to our own borders, because we create borders.” He added that music is a thing which does not create borders.

He also shared his journey on how he started his career with struggles amid challenges and pressures from families and how he rose to another level despite tough circumstances and failures.

He said, ‘music has the miraculous power to reform and transform one’s soul.’ He added that music must be pursued with a passion for helping one another.

While lauding the organisers for the initiative, he asserted that musicians can play a vast role to make the world more beautiful. He urged the musicians to help one another and spread the same to brighten one another in the society. In a world that is filled with disparity and problems, he urged the musicians to teach people to be a good human.

He also pointed out that when a musician is disciplined and on the right path of God, he/ she could be a magician in itself saying, “music is another word of magic.”

Kher advocated the mantra of ‘each one, teach one’ and ‘live and let live’ in order to make the world a better place to live.

Also speaking on the occasion, managing director and founder of Nagaland College of Music and Fine Arts (NCMFA), conductor, composer and arranger, Vesato Theluo said, “we have a bright career and scope in the music industry in Nagaland”.

Dwelling on the opportunities and careers in music in Nagaland, he maintained that ‘making a career in the music industry is beyond a teacher and professors in institutions.’ He said there are ample opportunities to become a music director/ conductor, DJ, sound engineers, music composer, music therapist, music journalist, record producer, music librarian, professional singers etc.

Stating that “Music is a language of emotion, he said it represents different feelings and impacts the soul with no boundaries or limitations.’’ He said people turn to music whenever they are faced with different circumstances.

Theluo also encouraged young Nagas to take up music as a hobby as well as a strict profession. Stating that people have now come to know the importance of music, he said many parents have started sending their children to different music schools and for private individual lessons to improve their skills. He added that many young talented people are already making a living out of music.

Another resource person, who is also a musician/ folk artiste and storyteller, Mercy Tetseo, maintained that the journey into music may look attractive but at the same time has a lot of struggles along the way.

To the budding musician, Tetseo said one must first recognise one’s strength and also not only enjoy music but appreciate and learn more about music besides formal education.

She also encouraged the musician and artistes and those aspirants not to lose hope but to keep going amid the struggles and challenges.

Delivering the keynote address, the deputy commissioner of Phek, Sachin Jaiswal said, Nagaland being a land of festivals, culture, and traditions, the idea of organising the talk show was to tap and unlock the natural talents to a professional level.

The sub-divisional officer (civil) Bhavani Sri proposed the closing remark and also acknowledged the guest speaker, resource persons for enriching the participants. The talk show was moderated by Weto Losou.
