Dimapur, Nov. 27 (EMN): Janata Dal (United), Nagaland state, was perturbed to know that the BJP has decided to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Gujarat once it comes to power again. The JD (U) has termed the development only a beginning which would spread to the rest of the country.

“The UCC is the most dangerous threat to the democratic Constitution of India. The decision to implement UCC in Gujarat also means that the BJP has totally surrendered to the dictate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and is no more a political party but a religious organisation under the whims and fancies of the RSS,” stated a JD (U) Nagaland in a press release issued by its media and publicity cell.

Stating that Nagas had lived a life of democracy deeply rooted in the village republic, which was free from any external interference since time immemorial, JD (U) Nagaland stated that the Naga people should be the most worried.

“As such, to live under a Uniform Civil Code conditioned by a dominant religious ethics of the majority will subjugate the Nagas’ age old cultures and traditions. Moreover, over the years, the Nagas having embraced Christianity overwhelmingly and this is also a very important factor when it comes to UCC,” JD (U) Nagaland cautioned.

It, therefore, called upon the Naga people to wake up and defend themselves so that their history and identity are protected from any external religiously riddled aggression.
