Dimapur, Dec.17 (EMN): In a candid disclosure, former chief minister of Nagaland and former Governor of Odisha, Dr. SC Jamir, reprimanded at the complacent attitude of the present generation for continuing to live in the past glory despite the sacrifices made by their ancestors through tears and blood for a united, harmonious, prosperous and peaceful Nagaland.
According to Dr. Jamir, the major important challenges faced by the Naga society today was the continuing attitude of the present generation to live in the past history in contrast to the dreams of the leaders of yesteryears for a united, harmonious, prosperous and peaceful Nagaland. He made this remark at the 8th annual day programme of NN Nagi School in Kuda village, Dimapur, on Saturday.
“Leaders of yesterday years were committed. It will be befitting for us to pay homage to those leaders. But if we compare to the time of situation we are living now, the landscape of political, social, economic and religion is depicting a sorry figure of our society,” he pointed out.
According to Jamir, the onslaught of negative elements coupled with pessimism and tribalism features has invaded the Naga society. The entire system, he said, has collapsed and we have multiple authorities- both constitutional and unconstitutional while Nagaland is like a seriously wounded person.
“People are not free to express views with fear psychosis in the mind of people. There is famine of truth which is our own creation and we cannot blame outside forces for this,” he remarked.
He observed that Naga people talk of things which are not possible and leaders, both over ground and underground, are obsessed with the past. He, therefore, asserted that “if we think about the future, it is today that we have to design and if we forget today, our yesterday is also vanished.”
“Today is in our hand, so remember this when we talk about tomorrow. We are here to create new history and perhaps that is the greatest challenge we have in Nagaland,” Dr. Jamir added.
Jamir advocated that educational institutions are the key to building Nagaland for tomorrow while noting that one can store the intellectual and scholarly property in the institution. He, however, stated that if one fails to do this, one cannot talk of the future of Nagaland.
He expressed confident that the educational institutions in the state would be in the forefront in reaching scholarly and intellectual wealth of Nagaland as it is knowledge that determines the strength of a country.
“Our education should be founded on the grounds of innovation and ideas and not on the artificial ground as today is very essential to build our tomorrow.
“Quality is important for an institution and the infrastructure should be at par with the quality of education imparted. If you make adversities convert it into positivity. “If Nagaland has to march forward and dream of brighter future, educational institutions should manufacture genuine material,” Dr. Jamir said.
In conclusion, he encouraged the Naga people and particularly the younger generation to be continually motivated.
