Institutions observe International Women’s Day

Dimapur, March 9 (EMN): The Nagaland University Women Welfare Association celebrated the International Women’s Day at Old Cafeteria, Nagaland University, Lumami on March 8.
The speaker, president of Nagaland University Students Union NUSU (L), K Chumsli Anar, said the International women’s Day is annually held on March 8 to celebrate women’s achievement throughout history and across the nation.
Anar said the objective of women’s day celebration has evolved and embraced culture and ethnicity to emerge as a celebration of appreciation, respect and love towards women.
One of the most fundamental ways of building the world a better place to live in is to empowering women by recognizing and appreciating women’s political, economic and social achievements, he said. He also quoted ‘Human rights are women‘s right and women right are human rights’.

Witter Theological College
Witter Theological College, Vankhosung, Wokha celebrated International Women’s Day at the college campus on March 8, with APRO Bhandari, Lily Ngullie as speaker.
Ngullie in her exhortation maintained that nations and world leaders have been working ambitiously to the committed effort of achieving a common ground and common future for women all over the world, a world where gender based violence, exploitation, injustice and discrimination against women will be ended.
The planet 50-50 by 2030 is aimed for a world where every women will be given due rights to live up to her potentials through personal endeavor and not be a liability but a co-contributor for all progress of mankind, he said.
In response to the clarion call for progress, and to help build a better world for women across the globe, Ngullie urged for change and progress within the level of our homes, neighbourhood and churches.
The speaker called on the theological community to live up to responsibilities of telling the pristine truth as messengers of God, that man and women are all created in the matchless image of God.
A short video on ‘Struggle and Achievements of Women- Then and Now’, directed and produced by Lozilo and Abilan was screened during the programme.
Zuchanbeni and Shanchobeni performed poetry in motion ‘I am a Girl.’ Special song was presented by Renjanbeni and Keyipeule, skit by BD and OC years, and choreography by Janbeni and friends were other highlights of the programme.

Unity College
The women cell of Unity College under IQAC celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8 with the global theme “Press for progress.”
To mark the occasion, drama and skit portraying different shades of woman were performed by the students; songs and dance epitomizing the gracefulness of a women and speeches emphasising on the strength of women; and dispersing away with discrimination of women in the present society were showcased by the students and teacher.
To meet the hygienic needs of the females, the college authority donated a sanitary box.

Kohima NYK
The Nehru Yuva Kendra of Kohima observed international Women’s Day on March 8 at Nagabazar Panchayat Hall, Kohima with president of AGATHOS Society, Kevizenuo Kikhi as resource person.
In her speech, Kikhi encouraged the youth present to promote gender equality. Expressing concern for women, she said women they should know their rights and learn how to speak-up against any mental or physical abuse.
State zonal director, Jackie Ruivah in her message reminded the youths on how women plays a vital role in the society and called up the youths to develop an attitude to respect women in the society.
