Hornbill angling competition culminates

Dimapur, Dec. 5 (EMN): The two day Hornbill angling competition which commenced on Dec. 4 culminated on Dec. 5 at the beautiful landscape of Doyang reservoir under Wokha district informed a press note from DPRO Wokha.
The event was held under the aegis of Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN), District Anglers Wokha Nagaland (DAWN) and sponsored by the Department of Fisheries (GON). Anglers from abroad as well as from different states of India and other district of our state converged at the site to exhibit their skills, patience and luck, vying for the biggest catches of the day as they know that the biggest catch will not only be their pride but will be walking away with INR. 50,000 as prize money.
Deputy Director (Fishery) Neitho Kuotsu, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, said that fisheries being one of the most valuable and important sectors of production in the state, the value of fish and its by product in the state have increased considerably among the local populace, and thus has account for immense opportunity to develop the fisheries sectors in the state. Besides, meeting the needs for maturational security, there is a huge dependence of people of fisheries and its tertiary activities for their livelihood, generating valuable employment and uplifting the socio economic condition of the rural masses.
Neitho Kuotsu, also congratulated all the winners in the different categories of the Hornbill angling competition and wish ANN and its constituent bodies for promoting and conserving our rich biodiversity.
On the first day traditional pole rod angling competition, the participants were allowed to use only single pole rod and hook for the entire stipulated time and during the main event on the second day, the participants were allowed one rod with two hooks to try their luck. The winners of the first day are 1st – Rex Moirangthem (Manipur), 2nd – Mhonyamo E-Rui (Wokha) 3rd – Naba Kishwvor (Manipur), 4th – N.Yanbemo Patton (Wokha), 5th – Achum Kithan (Dimapur)
The competition was held under three categories, Mahseer, pole rod and other category. 60 participants took part in the main event and 50 anglers took part in the traditional pole rod event.
