Kohima, July 18 (EMN): Following her arrest in Mumbai on July 17, animal rights activist Hema Chowdhary, is likely to be brought to Nagaland on July 20, according to police sources.

A highly placed source in Nagaland Police told Eastern Mirror that Chowdhary is currently being kept in police custody in Mumbai.

“We are expecting (her arrival) on Monday but we are not very sure because of flight issue,” the source said, adding that flight schedule has become unpredictable due to the Covid-19 pandemic

“There is no flight from Mumbai to any of the airports in the Northeast on Sunday; so we are trying Monday, but that is not confirmed yet,” the source said.

As per the protocol, she has to undergo Covid-19 testing, followed by police remand to record her statement before being forwarded to judicial custody, the source added.

Kuholy Chishi, one of the petitioners who filed a case against the animal activist for her abusive remarks, said that ‘while some people had filed FIR against Chowdhary based on culture, traditions or reasons related with Article 371(A)’, she filed the petition focusing on the threats contained in the activist’s viral video.

“It’s good that she is booked under those IPC relating to ST and SC,” she remarked.

“My only request is that Chowdhary should rectify the damage she has caused,” Chishi said.
