Gariphema Bawe wins best performing village award

DIMAPUR — Gariphema Bawe Village was awarded the ‘Best performing village’ under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen (SBM-G), while the ‘Best practices’ awards were given to Gariphema Bawe, Kiruphema Bawe and Kidima villages.

The awards were given away during the capacity building training on open defecation-free (ODF) plus component and operation and maintenance under JJM and block level recognition of best practices, best performing and best WATSAN chairman held at the office of PHED, Kohima Rural Division, on Thursday.

An update from PHED Kohima Rural Division stated that the ‘Best water and sanitation (WATSAN) committee chairmen’ awards were given to Guju and Kidima villages.

The executive engineer (EE) of PHED, Kohima Rural Division, Subongyanger, gave away the certificates and cash awards to the winners.

Speaking at the programme, the executive engineer apprised the gathering that the responsibility of operation and maintenance would be borne by the villages after the completion of JJM project. He stressed on the collection of water fee and to carry on with the water and sanitation activities.

The State Human Resource Development (HRD) consultant of Water and Sanitation Support Organisation (WSSO), PHED, Thenusou Sekhose, encouraged the gathering to do their best to develop their village into ODF plus model villages by being self-reliant and not depend on the government alone.

Report stated that the sanitation and hygiene consultant of District Water and Sanitation (DWSM), PHED, Kohima division, Virhelie Kruneilie, spoke on ‘Good sanitary practices,’ while the IEC and WASH consultant of PHED, Kohima Urban Division, Vibou Seyie, spoke on ‘Grey water management and plastic waste management and the district coordinator of PHED, Kohima Division, Ashale Seb, spoke on ‘ODF plus component and mobile app.’

The programme was chaired by Jal Shakti Fellow of Botsa block, Khrietso Kense.
