DIMAPUR — A one-day farmers training on organic farming under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD-NER) Phase-IV was organised by the Department of Agriculture, Baghty sub-division at SDAO office conference hall, Baghty, Wokha district on May 16.

Renathung Kikon, SDAO, in his keynote address, highlighted about the aims and objectives of MOVCD-NER and the organisations involved for the success of organic farming, an update stated.

L Samuel, SDO (Civil) Sanis, in his speech, encouraged the farmers on the importance of organic produce and challenged the farmers not to compromise on their organic farm produce by using chemicals because of laziness. Rather, he urged the farmers to work harder and emulate their ancestors who engaged only in organic farming but could still sustain their livelihood.

In the second session, resource person Chumyani Ovung, AO, deliberated on the topic ‘Organic farming, its relevance, scope and constraints in Nagaland,’ while and resource person Lothungbeni Murry, ATM (ATMA) spoke on the topic ‘Preparation and use of organic spray and compost with special reference to pineapple.’

Altogether, 55 farmers attended the training programme. An interaction hour was also held with the participants, where they expressed gratitude to the department for sponsoring and organising such a programme for the benefit and uplift of the rural farmers.

The training was chaired by Longshithung Lotha, AO, and Meribeni Yanthan, LDA-cum- CA, proposed vote of thanks.
