Farmers club launched in Phenwhenyu

VIWETO THORIE, SDAO Tseminyu, inaugurated the Phenwhenyu Farmers’ Club at Phenwhenyu Students’ Community Hall, Phenwhenyu village, on May 6. Presently, the club has forty one non-defaulting members linked to State Bank of India, Tseminyu branch. They are also attached to KVK Kohima supported by NABARD.
Lauding the objective of Phenwhenyu Farmers’ Club to bring about “development through credit,” Thorie called upon the members to maintain strict financial discipline for developing long term relationship with banks. Sharing his experiences, he encouraged the members to adopt new technologies in their fields for increasing production and productivity. Besides, he also encouraged the members to adopt suitable marketing strategies for economic uplift.
Members of the Farmer’s Club have been formed into Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) for accessing credit from banks. They would be facilitated and monitored by Development Wing of Council of Rengma Baptist Churches (CRBC), Zumpha, for credit linkage and ensuring proper end use of loan, including repayments to banks.
Presentation on calendar of activities and conduct of base level orientation programme were the other highlights of the programme. During the course of discussion, Thorie advised the club members, who are interested to take up soybean cultivation, to approach his office through proper channel.
The meeting was chaired by Gwakenye Tep, chief coordinator of the club. Other dignitaries who attended the programme were Bendang Aier, AGM, NABARD; Puhovil, Branch Manager of NStCB, Tseminyu branch; Arhunlo Semp, Development Secretary, CRBC, Zumpha.
Joshua Cheng, VDB secretary, and J Anosha Tep, Associate Co-ordinator of the Club, welcomed the participants and presented the background leading to club formation respectively. The invocation was pronounced by Hyusinlo Khing, pastor of PBC, while the vote of thanks was delivered by T Kenile Cheng.
