The Faith in Action team from Nagaland emerged world champions in team event at the World Hanmadang Taekwondo Championship held at Pohang in South Korea from August 21-24.
Not just that, the team, which returned home on Friday, also had a spectacular performance in individual events winning 1 gold, 1 silver and 10 bronze medals. Martial artists from 147 countries competed in the prestigious event.
A 20-member team of Faith in Action represented India at the championship under the banner of Taekwondo Board of India and this was the best ever performance by an Indian team in the world event.Invited by Grandmaster Lee Jeong Hee, Faith in Action team members met Kukkiwon (world taekwon-do headquarters) president Won Sik Kang. He appreciated the Faith in Action team members for competing in Naga costumes and said the Nagas have nice traditional outfits, presentable in world class forums. He also conveyed his best wishes to the people of Nagaland for sending their team to the International event.
Grandmaster Kwangmun Ko, general director of World Taekwondo Academy, also invited the Faith in Action team to visit Kukkiwon after the championship.
