Dimapur: Having observed on the mushrooming of illegal structures even after compensations on land were made thereby hindering the widening work of NH-61 section from Wokha town to Hammock Resort, the Wokha Village Youth Organisation (WVYO) has urged the concerned authority to take prompt action at the earliest.

In a representation to the chief engineer of PWD (NH) through the deputy commissioner of Wokha, the organisation mentioned that compensation of damaged structures and properties along the said section of the NH-61 were paid after proper assessment of properties/structures likely to be damage. It added that a survey to this effect has also carried out under the supervision of the concerned authorities including the district administration to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

However, it claimed that the same portion of the compensated lands have been reclaimed by the land owners wherein shops, residential buildings, makeshift structures for commercial purposes were erected to the dismay of the public thereby hindering the ongoing road works.

The organisation felt that such illegal properties/ structures erected after payment of compensation should be demolished/ confiscated by the authorities and appropriate action be taken against errant land owners as per the law.

The properties, structures which need immediate government intervention at the earliest included sharp curve/ culvert above Lt. Bisamo Tungoe residence between Tsumang and Etsutchukha Colony where a butcher shop was erected right at the sharp curve making the area prone to accident and sharp and long curve at Wokha village gate/ junction, where the land owner has constructed one RCC building after receiving compensation.

The representation issued jointly by its president, Chibenthung P Kikon, and the general secretary, Echungthung Murry, also pointed out that the progress of the work was also going at a very slow pace and added that at this rate the prospect of commissioning the work was uncertain. It, therefore, demanded that a timeframe for completion of the work be specified.

While urging the authority to take prompt action at the earliest, the organisation has assured total support and cooperation for any developmental works within its jurisdiction. It further stated that the concerned authorities and contractors would be held responsible in the event of any eventuality if it fails to take appropriate action on or before April 30.
