ENPO declares December 4 and 5 as ‘Black Day’

Dimapur, Dec. 27 (EMN): Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has resolved to declare December 4 and 5 as ‘Black Day’ within its jurisdiction.

The resolution to this effect was taken during a public rally organised by the Phom People’s Council (PPC) on December 23 in protest against the killings of innocent civilians in Oting village and Mon town on December 4 and 5 by the Indian armed forces. The protest rally was organised in pursuance to the directive of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), informed a DIPR report.

The rally started from Phom Lempong junction to Hukphang junction and culminated at DC’s office in Longleng town followed by submission of a representation to the deputy commissioner of Longleng.

The representation stated that the public of ENPO resolved to cease co-operation with the Indian security forces until its demands are fulfilled and justice is delivered to the victim’s families in particular and the people of Nagas in general.

The demand included arrest of the Indian security forces under relevant law of the country and being brought under civil court for trial against those involved in the gruesome killings of 14 innocent public on December 4 and 5 in Mon district.

It also demanded withdrawal of the union Home minister statement in the Indian Parliament, wherein he had stated that the security forces fired in self-defense. It further demanded that the government of India revoke the draconian law- Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 from the entire North Eastern states.

The public also resolved to abstain from any national celebrations and other activities, non-participation in army civic programmes, non-attendance to any of their official invitations and not to allow any recruitment drive within Eastern Nagaland area.

The public also resolved to write to the state government to immediately set up the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC).
