ANCSU warns of ‘confrontation’

Dimapur, March 11 (EMN): Rampant encroachment into public areas and educational institutions continue to rankle students. 200 acres of land belonging to Kohima Science College in Jotsoma village, near Kohima town, have shrunk to around 130 acres due to encroachment by vested individuals and parties, a college organisation has stated.
The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) issued to the media on March 11 a copy of a letter that was addressed to the deputy commissioner of Kohima demanding intervention. The administration failing to act will force the union to resort to own action that may invite ‘unpleasant confrontations from the students’ community, the union stated by way of caution.
‘Two hundred acres of land which belongs to Kohima Science College (150 acres compensated and 50 acres donated by Jotsoma village) have been illegally encroached by multiple parties and currently only around 130 acres of land are with the college as observed till 2014,’ the letter stated. The ANCSU stated to have ‘firmly resolved not to allow any kind of encroachment or other settlements that may compromise even an inch of land that belongs to its institution.’
The organisation has appealed that all encroached lands since 1970 including the PHE water reservoir, the RCEMPA building, the Doordarshan Kendra Kohima station, and all other illegal infrastructure be demolished and evicted within 40 days. It demanded reinstating the lands which the college group stated rightfully belong to Kohima Science College.
‘The district administration failing to take necessary action in delivering justice to ANCSU and Kohima Science College will compel the union to take its own course of action which may invite unpleasant confrontations from the students’ community,’ the representation added.
