DIMAPUR — In what could be one of the single biggest seizures of drugs in Nagaland, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized heroin worth INR 62.58 crore in the illicit international drug market, from Dimapur on Friday.

According to the Indian intelligence agency, a suspect Mahendra Bolero vehicle was intercepted at Dimapur on December 8, and recovered 17 packets containing heroin weighing 8.94 kilograms concealed inside the front door panel and the dashboard upon thorough rummaging of the vehicle.

The vehicle, which was coming from Manipur, was intercepted by the DRI as part of its continued crackdown on drug smuggling and trafficking syndicates operating in the north-eastern region.

In this connection, two persons have been arrested and a case filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, according to sources from the intelligence agency.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs also updated about the seizure on X (formerly called Twitter).
