DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 26

Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) continues with its endeavor to develop the state’s commercial hub Dimapur city. The municipal council’s 7th project–construction of a wide footpath with a drain for MP Road was inaugurated on Saturday, September 26, by local MLA H. Tovihoto Ayemi.Inaugurating the project of the DMC, chief guest Tovihoto said that a slogan for the city “Clean Dimapur Green Dimapur” was put across with the idea for a cleaner and greener Dimapur. But the lack of ‘sense of belongingness’ on the part of the citizen’s denizens has not secured the efforts of the DMC to ‘smarten the city,’ Ayemi lamented.
With time, he said, changes are taking place along with new government, new policies and implementations and reorganization, the people are studying the development activities of the government. Lauding the developmental initiative of the DMC, he also lauded the business community of Dimapur for their cooperation to the DMC.
Assuring that the DAN government will ‘never go behind developmental works,’ the MLA called for cooperation from the citizens to keep the city clean and green and secure the efforts of the DMC.
DMC’s chief executive officer Atokhe Aye also addressed the event. Since January this year, he said, the council had been initiating various developmental activities ‘to provide the best for the city wherein around 14 community dustbins constructed in and around Dimapur city.’
However, the CEO lamented that the community remains far behind in civic sense and the hard efforts executing by the DMC are not taken into consideration.’ He has appealed to all right-thinking and responsible citizens to make use of the district’s public properties and keep the city clean and green.
The 7th project of DMC inaugurated today will comprise construction of an RCC drain with slabs, construction of five RCC culverts, and a widened footpath of 6 ft width on average and a steel railing and protection for the constructed drains at MP road.
