DLSAs observe International Day of Disabled Persons

Dimapur, Dec. 03 (EMN): Along with the rest of the world, District Legal Services in Nagaland observed International Day of Disabled Persons with the theme “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all” on Dec. 3.

Wokha: Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) organised a programme at DC conference hall, Wokha.
Delivering a short speech, Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Dr. Manizir Jeelani, said everyone is equal and that people with disability are considered as special children. This is why it is our duty to give them with due love and affection and not discriminate them, he said.
DC also said people with disability should step forward out of social stigma and myth and avail benefits which have been guaranteed to them by the government.
President Wokha District Disabled Association informed that their association are persons of disabled only and they often face many difficulties in availing schemes and mingling with the societies. He therefore requested the legal services and administration and social welfare department to help them and them in whatever ways they can.
Theme speaker, Chief Team Metamorphosis Thungdemo Kyong, said disability is a state of mind and not merely physical. He encouraged the disabled people that they can do what normal persons are unable to achieve by citing examples of various successful persons who are physically disabled.
Speaking on Rights of disabled persons, panel lawyer, David Ezung, said disabled person has a right for equal opportunities as enshrined in the Indian constitution. He added that they have equal rights and opportunities like other normal person. He also informed that disabled person has 3 % job reservation in Nagaland and have a right to participate same as other normal person.
Superintendent of Observation Home, Wobenthung J Patton, spoke on NSLSA schemes for disabled persons.

Dimapur: Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) organised a programme in collaboration with Faith Baptist Church, Nagaland State Disability Forum, Prodigal Home, Exodus Federation at Faith Baptist Church Dimapur.
Sharing legal rights of disabled persons, panel lawyer, Senti said that the right of disabled persons should not be undermined by any section of society. She said it is the responsibility of the state and society to uplift the disabled section at the forefront.
Another panel lawyers, Kekrieleü, shared about the NALSA (Legal Services to the Workers in the Unorganized Sector) scheme and Moatila, shared on NALSA scheme for disabled persons.
Chairing the programme, panel lawyer Chuba, highlighted the legal services authority and its function.

Mokokchung: Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) in collaboration with Care and Support Society, CURE Foundation, MDPAPWDs and BLDPOs organized a programme at Town Hall Mokokchung.
Speaking as a chief guest, Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung Sachin Jaiswal said “we should never look down as disabled person but recognizeas differently abled because of their talents.” He urged the parents to have positive attitude towards their children by encouraging their talents.
DC also asked to avail schemes from the government so that the differently abled children could become self dependent. Lamenting that though so much has been done for the differently abled it is inadequate, he said the challenges is to look on what could be implemented
Panel lawyer Limanungsang, highlighted on NALSA scheme and functions of legal services authority. He also appraised on how the legal services can help the disabled persons.
Brief report was presented by MDPAPWD, BLDPO, care and support society CURE foundation and short speech by Nagaland Parents Association for Disabled (NAPAD). Special number was presented by Imsuakum, Chuchuyimpang DPO, C&SS.
