Dimapur, Jan. 24 (EMN): The Dimasa Students’ Union Nagaland (DSUN) has demanded the government of Nagaland to amend its earlier notification in connection with the re-organisation of Dimapur districts following the creation of Niuland and Chümoukedima.

In a press release, the student body stated that it will be made “to take vigorous actions” if the government fails to do justice to the Dimasa community.

It stated that the state government didn’t pay heed to the demand of Dimasa Public Organisation despite a memorandum being submitted to the chief minister on January 4, but instead announced a new district and recognised a tribe.

“We, the Dimasa Students’ Union Nagaland (DSUN), are deeply disheartened by the fact that our cries are being ‘ignored’ for the rights which stands firm historically. The union also apprises the creation of new district under the government of Nagaland however this creation occurs as an injustice to the whole Dimasa community due to the segregation of 7 (seven) Dimasa villages from Dimapur, knowing the fact that the Dimapur ruins, also called Kachari Rajbari (and) looked after by the ASI, proves the living testimony of Dimasa Kachari Kingdom since medieval period,” read the press release.

Opposing the bifurcation of Dimasa Kachari villages, the union said the move ‘murders the aboriginality of the whole Dimasa Kachari community’ and that it would not accept “this betrayal by the government of Nagaland against our community”.
