Dimapur, Jan. 24 (EMN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Monday asked the Naga youth and the student community to refrain from taking part in the upcoming Republic Day celebration to protest the imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in the Naga-inhabited areas.

It said in a press communiqué that Nagas shouldn’t celebrate such events till the government of India continues to implement its militarisation policy.

“This is not in defiance of any forces on earth but the assertion that the voices of the Naga people cannot be muted despite the continued subjugation by forces reeking of colonial ideologies and practices,” it stated.

It further reminded its federating units and sub-ordinate bodies to comply with the earlier directive not to associate with the Indian Armed and Paramilitary forces or accept any form of humanitarian aid from them.

The NSF went on to appeal to the state government to ensure that the special investigation team (SIT) report “pertaining to the Oting massacre is made public and that the culprits be awarded befitting punishments at the earliest”.
