Dimapur, April 29 (EMN): Minority communities in the State are asked to work harder to come at par with other communities in this modern era, while students are asked to focus on education to live a secured life.

This concern was shared by the interim president of Indigenous Minority Tribes of Nagaland (IMTN), K Lun Tungnung, on the occasion of Rongjali Bwishagu festival of the Dimasa Kachari community on April 29 at Urban Haat, Dimapur.

Tungnung pointed out that one should not feel despondent of what others consider or say about the minority communities but rather remain proud of their existence. Persuading the community to be optimistic, the IMTN leader exhorted that ‘everywhere there is always a minority and majority community.’ He was of the opinion that through celebration of such festival, they should encourage each other and continue to live in harmony.

“Dimapur belongs to Kachari king and whatever people may articulate, you know where you come from,” reminded Tungnung to the community. He called on the community to unite and work together to protect the rights and privileges of the tribes within the State.

Limasunep Jamir, Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, addressing the community, stressed on the importance of preserving one’s culture, which is our identity. He impressed upon the gathering to preserve their culture for the future generation.

Remarking the Kachari community as a progressing community, the bureaucrat called on the community to live in peace among the Naga community saying Rongjali Bwishagu festival can foster sense of ‘oneness and brotherhood’ among all communities.

Rongjali Bwishagu festival – the celebration of Spring festival of Kachari community- is observed on April 28 and 29 in Dimapur with the objective to bring harmonious relationship amongst all Kachari sub tribes that includes Boro, Dimasa, Mech, Sonowal, Rabha, Garo to name a few living in nearby areas and build mutual friendship, brotherhood, peace and harmony with people of Nagaland in particular and those living in border areas of Assam-Nagaland through cultural exchange programmes.

On Saturday a colourful cultural procession was carried out around the Rajbari complex to mark the celebration that was inaugurated by Limasunep Jamir, Commissioner of Police Dimapur.
